General

What facilities does the hotel offer?

The hotel features 100 rooms and 2 suites, all south-facing with panoramic views of the Alps. Guests can enjoy an extensive wellness area of approximately 2,500 m², including a Finnish outdoor sauna, an earth sauna in the wellness garden, a soft sauna, infrared cabin, steam bath, caldarium, indoor pool, natural swimming pond with integrated heated whirlpool, fitness centre, relaxation room, and 9 massage and beauty treatment rooms.

The wellness garden also offers a spacious sunbathing area overlooking the Alps, a pool bar, table tennis facilities, and a beach volleyball court.

The hotel restaurant seats up to 150 guests and features large communal tables for 4 to 12 people, as well as individual tables upon request.

In the lobby, guests will find the reception area and a lobby bar with a darts board and billiard table, along with direct access to the hotel terrace and an herb garden with seating areas. The lobby bar serves snacks, drinks, and cocktails and is also open to non-resident guests during the day.

Located directly beside the hotel is the AVIVA Alm, offering seating for around 100 guests for private events and evening entertainment. The hotel also has its own brewery, Brau Boutique, where approximately 1,000 litres of beer in four different varieties have been brewed since 2016. Brewery tours, beer tastings, and beer pairing dinners are regularly available.

On the lower ground floor, guests can enjoy the “bookTok” lounge – a cosy library and relaxation area – as well as the hotel’s exclusive nightclub, accessible only to hotel guests.

The ground floor features 5 seminar and event rooms accommodating up to 120 guests, ideal for seminars, workshops, and events of all kinds. These rooms are equipped with modern conference technology, including screens, projectors, and standard seminar equipment, and feature floor-to-ceiling windows with views of the Alps.

In front of the hotel, there is a covered car park with 148 parking spaces, including 2 accessible parking bays and 6 electric vehicle charging stations.

Is smoking permitted in the hotel?

Hotel AVIVA is a non-smoking hotel throughout.

Smoking is only permitted in the designated outdoor areas. Please note that smoking is strictly prohibited in all guest rooms. We kindly ask for your understanding.

What is the ideal length of stay?

However, AVIVA is also perfect for a short break in the Mühlviertel, a solo wellness retreat, or simply a quick getaway to find peace in nature. Whether you are looking for a short active holiday, a weekend spa break, or a trip with friends, AVIVA is the ideal destination for solo travel, singles' holidays, or a getaway with the girls or the guys.

How can I purchase a gift voucher?

You can easily purchase an AVIVA gift voucher through our website. Simply select your preferred voucher—whether it’s a monetary voucher, a wellness voucher, or a massage voucher.

You can choose to receive it instantly via email or, if you would like it beautifully gift-wrapped, we would be delighted to send it to you by post. Of course, you are also more than welcome to contact us by phone to purchase a voucher of your choice.

How can I check my consumption?

You can check all consumption bookings directly on the screen at our reception. If you notice any discrepancies, please make a complaint by 10 a.m. at the latest on the day following the booking. Unfortunately, we cannot accept any complaints after this deadline. Thank you for your understanding!

AVIVA Communication!

The AVIVA is located in a unique and beautiful place on this earth at almost 1,000 metres above sea level. As is customary in Austria, people are on first-name terms at this altitude. This makes it much easier to talk to each other at the singles hotel.

Why are there no couples and children at the AVIVA?

Communication, getting to know each other, new friendships, socialising and togetherness take centre stage at AVIVA. From our point of view, couples are a closed small group who usually want to spend their vacation as a couple and for themselves. In addition, there are only single rooms in the singles hotel and no tables for two, only large communication tables. PS: Dear couples and families, no need to be sad, other hotels also have beautiful wellness areas to suit your needs. We recommend our neighbouring partner hotels Bergergut and Hotel Guglwald. What is the difference between AVIVA and a classic wellness hotel?

There are many thermal hotels, family hotels or wellness hotels in Austria and Europe! However, AVIVA is unique and not a classic wellness hotel! Why? Therefore:

In AVIVA, couples and children are not allowed, so the hotel is exclusively for singles, solo travellers and friends - in most hotels all age groups and target groups, from toddlers to seniors, families and seminars
In AVIVA everyone is on first name terms, but still on a level and not everything is very formal
Society, communication and joy are the focus of the hotel - more than just wellness

Rules of the game in AVIVA

We are not a typical hotel, but rather unique, which is why we need a few rules! With our make friends concept, we are unique in Europe and only receive guests who are singles, solo travelers or come with friends. Communication, company, shared activities, fun, sports and celebrations are the focus, as is respectful interaction with other guests. excessively flirt and harangue our guests. Security in the hotel

Austria is generally considered a very safe country to travel to. There are rarely incidents in the hotel. A safe is available in the rooms. We are compliant to latest fire safety standards and regulations and our staff receive regular training.

Hygiene and cleanliness in the hotel?

The AVIVA housekeeping and cleaning team cleans the guest rooms, the entire wellness area and all public areas of the hotel every day. The kitchen is extensively cleaned daily with the support of the latest cleaning technology. The water hygiene in the pools is checked daily and the indoor pool is cleaned several times a week using a robot. An independent institute and the public authorities test us regularly.

The shuttle service operates three times a week – every Wednesday, Friday, and Sunday.

Is parking available at Hotel AVIVA?

Yes, the hotel offers ample free covered outdoor parking spaces for guests.

What is the location of the hotel?

AVIVA****s make friends is located at Höhenweg 1, 4170 St. Stefan-Afiesl, in the Mühlviertel region of Upper Austria, Austria.

The hotel is exclusively designed for singles, solo travellers, and groups of friends. Children and couples are not permitted at the hotel.

Situated at an altitude of 928 metres, the hotel enjoys a unique hilltop location with panoramic views across the Mühlviertel region, the Alpine foothills, and the main Alpine ridge. The coordinates are N 48° 34.591′ / E 14° 06.680′.

The hotel is approximately 500 metres from the Austrian–Czech border, around 2 km from the centre of St. Stefan, 15 km from the district capital Rohrbach, and 52 km from the provincial capital Linz.

What is the best way to get to the AVIVA?

The hotel is located in St. Stefan am Walde, high above the Mühlviertel region with panoramic views stretching to the Alps.

The most convenient way to reach us is by car. Alternatively, we are happy to offer a complimentary shuttle service from the centre of St. Stefan am Walde, or a paid shuttle transfer from Linz or Passau railway stations. Simply let us know when making your booking.

Until when do I need to check out on the day of departure?

We kindly ask you to vacate your room by 11:00 am on the day of departure. Late check-out is available subject to availability and for an additional charge.

You are also welcome to continue using our wellness area, sports & activity programme, and afternoon snack free of charge until 8:00 pm on your departure day.

When can I check in at AVIVA?

Your room will be available from 3:00 pm on the day of arrival. If you arrive earlier, you are welcome to enjoy the wellness area, our sports & activity programme, and the afternoon snack before check-in.

How is the journey in winter?

The AVIVA is located at almost 1,000 metres above sea level and is easily accessible all year round. Winter tyres are required in the winter months (mandatory in Austria between 1.11. and 15.4.). The roads are always quickly cleared and easy to drive on, even during long periods of snowfall. Snow chains are not usually necessary. Travelling is also possible by public transport. There is a shuttle from Linz main station and Passau to the Aviva with ideal rail connections from all major cities in Germany. Plan your journey

Does the hotel have an electric charging station?

Yes, there are 6 electric charging stations directly at the Hotel AVIVA, each with 22 KW, Type 2 plug. The usual charging cards and credit cards are accepted.

Yes, every room is equipped with an electronic safe so you can securely store your valuables.

Does AVIVA offer double rooms?

AVIVA specialises in single rooms designed for solo travellers. However, all rooms can also be occupied by two guests upon request.

The rooms are spacious and offer a high level of comfort, with different bed sizes depending on the room category:

What room categories are available at AVIVA?

At AVIVA, you can choose from three modern and comfortable room categories, all specially designed for solo travellers and friends – featuring panoramic views, high-quality furnishings, and plenty of space to relax.

AVIVA MehrBlick A stylish single room with a queen-size bed (150 × 200 cm), private balcony, and stunning panoramic views. Perfect for guests who appreciate a cosy and modern atmosphere.
AVIVA Sky A spacious room located on the upper floors, featuring a king-size bed (170 × 200 cm), balcony, blackout curtains, blinds, air conditioning, and spectacular views of the Alps. Ideal for friends sharing a room together.
AVIVA MehrBlick Suite Available only twice in the hotel – one on the 3rd floor and one on the 4th floor. These suites feature a king-size bed (180 × 200 cm), freestanding bathtub, comfortable seating area with sofa, desk, heated towel rail, and separate bathroom and WC. Perfect for guests looking for extra space and style.

All rooms are designed as single rooms but can also be occupied by two guests upon request. In addition, every room includes modern amenities such as Wi-Fi, flat-screen TV, safe, minibar, and a balcony with breathtaking Alpine views.

Room request?

All 100 rooms and the 2 suites have the same facilities, with multiple views of the Alps and a quiet location. You are welcome to secure a room on the 4th or 5th floor when you make your booking by booking an AVIVA Sky room. These floors often offer a better view and are usually quieter, as they are further away from the public areas such as the lobby. Ideal if you value a beautiful view and a little more peace and quiet during your stay.

Can I go on holiday with my dog at the AVIVA?

Dogs are often described as man's best friend. Rightly so, in our opinion. Because holiday time should also be spent together and your dog is very welcome at the AVIVA. Your dog can accompany you on hikes and many other outdoor activities from the MAKE FRIENDS activity programme every day. The only dog free zones are the Spa area - this includes the entire wellness garden; brewery; restaurant; dance club (disco) and the AVIVA Alm during evening events. However, your faithful companion is welcome to accompany you to the AVIVA Alm during the day. So, why not travel solo and make friends with man's best friend by your side? The surcharge for your holiday with your dog is 15,- per day and dog.

Can I cancel free of charge at AVIVA?

Cancellation policy at Hotel AVIVA

Life can always bring unexpected changes, and a long-awaited holiday at AVIVA may unfortunately need to be cancelled. The following cancellation conditions apply:

Cancellation fees

Up to 30 days before arrival:
No cancellation fees apply. Any deposits will either be refunded in full or transferred to a new travel date. Please note that for special offers, promotional rates, or early booking discounts, different conditions may apply, and cancellation fees may already apply even more than 30 days before arrival. These details are specified in your booking confirmation.
Up to 5 days before arrival:
50% of the cost of accommodation or booked packages will be charged. No cancellation fees apply to additional services such as spa treatments (massages, cosmetics), e-bike rental, or shuttle transfers.
From 5 days before arrival or no-show:
100% of the cost for accommodation and booked packages will be charged, as well as for additional services such as spa treatments, e-bike rental, and shuttle transfers.

Options to avoid cancellation fees

AVIVAflex rate:
You can cancel or rebook your stay once free of charge, regardless of reason, up to 2 days before arrival. (Further details apply according to the Flex tariff.)
Travel cancellation insurance:
If taken out at the time of booking, this can cover cancellations due to illness (usually requiring a medical certificate), according to the insurer’s terms.
Gold & Silver AVIVA member status:
As a regular guest in the AVIVA make friends club, you can flexibly move your stay to another date free of charge in the Silver status category. A new date must be provided at the time of cancellation.

If you need to cancel your stay, the hotel asks you to inform them as soon as possible.

What does dynamic pricing at AVIVA mean?

At AVIVA, we use a dynamic pricing system. This means that the prices for stays can vary depending on demand, the time of booking, or availability – similar to airline tickets.

How do the social activities work?

Everything at AVIVA is completely optional. You can join in as much or as little as you like, or simply kick back and relax. It’s a brilliant, low-pressure way to get to know your fellow guests.

Are there special themed weeks or events?

Yes! From yoga retreats and sports weeks to themed events – each week offers a different focus.

What can I do when it rains?

There’s no such thing as boredom at AVIVA!

You can enjoy the wellness area, join fitness classes, or book a massage. Alternatively, relax with a good book in the lounge or have a cocktail at the bar.

There are also workshops, karaoke evenings, and various indoor events that ensure a great atmosphere even on rainy days.

Can I work while staying at AVIVA?

Yes, that works very well at AVIVA.

With the Work & Relax offer, you can combine work and holiday in a flexible way. Subject to availability, you have access to a free seminar room where you can work undisturbed, hold video conferences, or focus on your projects.

In between work sessions, you can relax in the pool or sauna, or enjoy walks in nature to recharge. This way, your workation becomes both productive and relaxing – combining work and holiday in one place.

Dance week at Hotel AVIVA – Do I need a fixed dance partner?

No, you do not need a fixed dance partner for the dance weeks such as salsa, discofox, and others at Hotel AVIVA.

While there is no guarantee of an equal number of men and women, any imbalance is easily balanced out through rotating partner and circle changes during the classes. This allows all guests to actively participate – whether travelling alone, with friends, or as a couple.

Sport

Can I rent bicycles & e-bikes at the hotel?

Yes, you can.

You can use brand-new mountain bikes free of charge, and e-bikes can be rented for a fee of €35. If needed, helmets can also be borrowed free of charge.

During the mountain bike days, there are also special technical training sessions available.

How can I join classes?

All AVIVA activity and fitness programmes are included in your stay.

You can simply register online via the activity schedule (activity plan).

What leisure activities are available?

At AVIVA, you can look forward to a wide range of activities:

What are the snow conditions like?

The surrounding ski resorts of Hochficht, Sternstein, and Lipno feature modern snow cannons, providing reliable cover throughout the winter. These resorts are usually open from mid-December until late March and are all located within a 15–30 minute drive of the hotel.

Is there a fitness room with cardio machines?

Is there a fitness room with cardio machines? Certainly! The AVIVA gym is equipped with the latest Technogym gear, including treadmills, spin bikes, and cross trainers. Perfect for maintaining your fitness routine during your stay.

Do you offer lockable cycle storage?

Absolutely. Your bikes can be kept in our secure, lockable room with CCTV at the entrance. We also provide e-bike charging points and basic tools for any maintenance or small repairs you might need.

Which hikes do you recommend around AVIVA?

Situated at 928m above sea level, Hotel AVIVA is surrounded by a vast network of trails through the rolling hills of the Mühlviertel and the Šumava National Park in the Czech Republic.

Whether you’re looking for a gentle stroll or a challenging multi-hour trek, there is something to suit every fitness level. If you’d prefer some company while exploring, we highly recommend our "Hiking Days for Solo Travellers"

Is there a lockable ski storage room?

Yes, of course. Your skis and cross-country gear can be kept in our secure storage room, which is monitored by CCTV. We also have a dedicated heated boot dryer, so your boots will be warm and dry for your next day on the slopes.

Can I hire ski gear and book lessons?

Absolutely! At the Hochficht, Sternstein, and Lipno (Czech Republic) ski resorts, you’ll find specialist sports shops for all your equipment hire and ski schools for professional tuition.

Looking to hit the slopes with company? We also host our popular AVIVA Ski Days for singles several times throughout the winter season. It’s a great way to enjoy the snow and meet new people.

Sports and activity programme?

The daily sports and activity programme are all (with a few exceptions) included in the price of the overnight stay. Registration is sufficient when staying at the hotel and does not have to be done before arrival.

Culinary

Can I bring my own drinks?

We offer a wide range of beverages for you – including cocktails, beers, sparkling wine, champagne, wines, and non-alcoholic drinks.

For this reason, we kindly ask you not to consume your own food or drinks in the hotel.

If this rule is not followed, a fee of €25 per bottle will be charged.

Is half board always included when staying at Hotel AVIVA?

At the AVIVA single hotel, half board is generally included in the overnight rate.

Yes, of course! External guests are very welcome at AVIVA – whether for breakfast or dinner.

However, it is recommended to make a reservation in advance, as places are in high demand.

At AVIVA, food is available throughout the day with a structured dining schedule:

Afternoon snack (Sweet & Sour Snack)

In good weather, it is served in the restaurant and on the terrace.

I eat vegan – can I get vegan food at Hotel AVIVA?

Yes, absolutely. At the AVIVA single hotel, a vegan, gluten-free, or lactose-free diet is easily possible.

The kitchen offers fresh, plant-based dishes every day – from a varied breakfast to a multi-course evening menu. You can simply indicate your dietary preferences when booking so the kitchen team can prepare accordingly.

This allows vegan, gluten-free, or lactose-free versions of salads, main courses, and desserts to be included during your stay.

Your own brewery?

Yes, AVIVA brews its own beer in its own brewery on-site. Around 1,000 litres of beer are brewed in four varieties (AVIVA Light Blonde; Dark Blonde; Wheat; and Bock) and served in the hotel. You are welcome to watch our Master Brewer, Manfred at work in the brewery (usually Tuesdays - Thursdays). There are guided tours of the brewery several times a week. While eating?

There is no seating arrangement for breakfast or dinner. Our communication tables offer space for 4 to 12 people. Every day with different guests or at a different table, depending on your mood. Our tip: arrive on time for the start of dinner - The AVIVA Team are there to welcome you. You won't get any funny looks here. As part of our sustainability strategy, we ask you to handle the food with care. You can go to the buffet more often or order a smaller portion if you are not a big eater. It is important to us that as little as possible ends up in the bin.

How can I give a tip?

Do you like what we do with heart and soul? The AVIVA team appreciates your tip. You are welcome to add the tip for the service team directly to your room when you settle your drinks bill. Or you can feed our piggy bank at check-out. Thank you very much! Your AVIVA Team.

Are there textile-free areas at AVIVA?

Yes. The sauna area is textile-free.

In the rest of the wellness area, however, you are kindly asked to relax wearing swimwear.

What are the temperatures of the swimming facilities?

Indoor pool: 31°C in summer and 33°C in winter (open 7:00 am – 9:00 pm)
Whirlpool: 36°C (open 10:30 am – 7:30 pm)
Swimming pond: between 15°C and 22°C (open 7:00 am – 9:00 pm)

Are towels and bathrobes provided?

Yes. In your room you will find a wellness bag with a bathrobe and towels.

We kindly ask you to bring your own flip-flops (for environmental reasons).

You can exchange your towels at the spa reception between:

12:00 pm – 1:00 pm
4:30 pm – 5:00 pm

When is the wellness area open?

The AVIVA spa & fitness area is open daily from 7:00 am to 9:00 pm.

The saunas are open from 10:30 am to 8:00 pm.

Can I use the AVIVA wellness area as a day guest?

You are welcome to use our wellness area as a Day SPA guest . The day ticket from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. including afternoon snack costs 65 euros per person, the evening ticket from 5.30 p.m. costs 22 euros. Tip: Come straight to breakfast from 7.30 a.m. and treat yourself to a real day's vacation: daily rate including breakfast 90 euros. Except on Saturdays from October to April, the AVIVA spa area is reserved exclusively for our hotel guests. As in the hotel, no couples or children are allowed in the spa area, so a wellness vacation for singles is perfectly possible. This makes Mühlviertel ideal for a quick solo getaway and anything in between.

Should I book massage and beauty appointments in advance?

Our highly qualified and highly trained masseurs and beauticians are in high demand at our wellness hotel. We therefore recommend booking a treatment by telephone or online before you arrive. If you would like a consultation, simply give us a call.

Is AVIVA only for single travellers?

No. AVIVA is not exclusively for singles.

It welcomes anyone travelling alone or with friends. The focus is not on dating, but on lifestyle, community, and having a good time together.

What is the average age of the guests?

The AVIVA guest structure is diverse – ranging from younger adults to experienced lifestyle travellers. On average, the age distribution is as follows:

Sustainability

Humane sustainability?

The more than 70 employees (depending on the season) are all registered and paid in accordance with all legal requirements. They can all receive free further education and training at our own Top Hotels Academy or from external training providers. In addition, all employees have access to all hotel facilities, as well as board and lodging, free of charge. Some departments have a 4-day working week (4 x 10 hours) and currently 15 employees take advantage of the offer of an electric car for a small additional payment.

Sustainability?

We live in an unspoilt natural environment and use our resources carefully. We heat the AVIVA with pellet heating and a large part of the hot water is heated with solar heating. We source most of our food locally and brew our own beer with hops from our neighbours. There is a 62kwp PV system on the hotel roof. We ask you to join in and do your bit for the environment.. Treat our nature and the local animals with respect. Avoid unnecessary water consumption, don't dispose of anything in our toilets, separate your rubbish properly, don't waste food and take advantage of our Green Option. With this option, you don't have to clean your room. You can also protect our environment by not changing your hand and bath towels so often. This saves valuable resources and protects our environment 🙂

Where can I find the AVIVA app?

You can easily download the AVIVA app for free from the App Store (iOS devices) or the Google Play Store (Android devices).

In the app, you’ll find all information and schedules for your AVIVA holiday, including the sports, activity, and entertainment programme, as well as many other useful tips.

You can also conveniently order drinks and snacks through the app and keep an overview of your consumption.

I don’t want to download the app / I don’t have a smartphone

No problem at all.

You can still fully take part in the sports and activity programme without a smartphone. At the reception and spa reception, tablets are available where you can view the entire programme, including meal times and all activities.

You can also register spontaneously for different sessions on site. The team will of course be happy to help you if you have any questions

Do I have to register in the AVIVA app?

No, registration is not mandatory if you only want to view the sports and activity programme.

However, if you want to use additional features such as ordering drinks or checking your consumption, you will need to create an account. This allows you to make full use of all the app’s benefits.

Do I need to register for all activities?

Yes, in general we kindly ask you to register for our activities such as yoga, workouts, bike tours, and hikes.

This helps our sports instructors know how many guests will participate and allows them to prepare the sessions perfectly for everyone.

You only need to enter your first name when registering.

For indoor activities, participation is limited. If you are unable to attend after registering, please inform reception so another guest can take your spot.

How can I order drinks in the wellness area?

You can easily order drinks via the AVIVA app.

Just go to “AVIVA Drinks”, select your desired drink, and add it to your cart. Then click “continue”, and a QR code will appear.

Scan this QR code in the wellness area where you are currently located (you will find various orange QR codes throughout the wellness area). This way, the staff knows exactly where to bring your order.

What is the QR code on my room card for?

On the back of your room key card, you will find a QR code that you can scan in the AVIVA app under “My consumption” (make sure you are logged in or registered beforehand).

This allows you to view your consumed drinks at any time. We recommend checking regularly to ensure all entries are correct. If you notice any errors within 24 hours, you can still report them at the reception.

What do I need the AVIVA app for?

The AVIVA app is especially useful if you want to prepare for your stay in advance.

In the app, you can find the sports and activity programme, which is always available one month ahead. This allows you to register for different activities early and plan your stay more effectively.
