Line dancing – dancing in a line with fun, rhythm, and making friends

Line dancing is a form of dance that has become a popular leisure activity for young and old alike around the world in recent decades. Originally from the USA and closely associated with country and western music, line dancing has long since opened up: today, people dance to almost all genres of music – from pop, rock, and funk to Latin and current chart hits.

What makes line dancing special is its structure: all dancers stand in lines next to and behind each other and dance a set choreography in sync. This means that there are no fixed dance partners, which makes it particularly easy to get started and lowers the barrier to simply joining in.

Each choreography consists of specific step sequences (counts) that are repeated. Many dances are known worldwide and are danced the same everywhere – this connects dancers across national borders. New dances are regularly choreographed to current music, so it never gets boring.

Who is line dancing suitable for?

Line dancing is suitable for all age groups, regardless of whether you have dance experience or not. It promotes flexibility, balance, coordination, and concentration—and it’s fun too. You train your body and mind at the same time and improve your sense of rhythm along the way.

The social aspect is not neglected either: making friends is the focus. Whether you train regularly or just dance occasionally, line dancing brings people together and puts everyone in a good mood.
